Obituary of Alan Laderoute

LADEROUTE, Alan

June 12, 1978 – May 27, 2026

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden and untimely passing of our dear Alan “Big Al” Laderoute on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at the age of 47.

Alan was a proud, devoted Dad to his daughters, Kate and Reese, and a loving, committed partner to Ellie Clin. He is also survived by his brother Paul Laderoute; sisters-in-law Susan Sheehan, Hayley Clin, and Brandi (nee Vaughan) Doherty; brothers-in-law Rob Kinch and Stuart Doherty; nieces Claire, Sally, Jane, Meryl, and Nola; nephew Ronan; uncle Peter Sear (Kathy); aunt Carolyn (nee Salmon) Fremeau (Jeff); cousins Jovawne (Scott), Mark (Vanessa), Terri, James, Carolyn (Blair), Michael, and Ben (Brian); his former wife Julie Doherty (Mike); and countless friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Denis and Andrene (nee Salmon) Laderoute; uncles Armand “Armie” Laderoute and Raymond Fremeau; aunts Mary Sear (nee Laderoute) and Pat (nee McCambridge) Laderoute; and his best little buddy Jacksie doodle.

The greatest joys of Alan’s life were his daughters. One of his favourite things to do was look through old photos and videos of Reese and Kate in their younger years, laughing and reminiscing about their funny antics. They shared secret handshakes, special whistles, and too many bad dad jokes to count. Alan was immensely proud of what kind-hearted, smart, and lovely young ladies they are. Lately, he especially loved cheering them on at their volleyball tournaments.

Alan was born in Kitchener, Ontario and grew up sailing on Conestoga Lake. He spent his youth sailing in regattas all over North America. A natural adventurer, Alan sailed across the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco to Hawaii with his brother Paul and their old sailing buddies in the 2022 Pacific Cup. He loved to travel and in recent years he and Ellie enjoyed many trips together including to Antarctica, France, the Cayman Islands, Joshua Tree National Park, and their family cottages on Belmont Lake and Manitoulin Island. A bike trip to Ireland, planned for this coming September, will have to wait until their next lifetime together.

Alan’s friendships were deep and far-reaching. He was close with many friends from elementary (Westmount P.S.), middle (A.R. Kauffman), high school (KCI), and university (U of Waterloo); the Conestoga Sailing Club and Shark sailing fleets; the Whiskey Discs, Spinners, Spinsters, Disc Pigs, UDT, and ANT ultimate frisbee teams; and the Central Frederick and Auditorium neighbourhoods.

Alan followed in his dad Denis’ footsteps and spent his career at Pano Cap Canada, where he was a successful and well-respected sales professional. Many of his customers, suppliers, and coworkers also became cherished friends over the years.

As one final act of generosity, Alan was a registered organ donor and donated his heart, both kidneys, liver, and eyes upon passing. His gifts saved the lives and sight of 7 others in need, and his family is forever grateful for the opportunity to share his love in this way.

Donations in Alan’s honour can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada and may be arranged through the funeral home at 519-745-8445 or at www.erbgood.com. In Alan’s memory, we encourage you to donate blood if you are able or register to be an organ donor (BeADonor.ca).

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the caring and attentive staff at Grand River Hospital, Hamilton General Hospital, and Trillium Gift of Life Network.
