Winston Moore Lewis
November 17, 1935 – May 28, 2026
It is with deep sadness and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of Winston Moore Lewis on Thursday May 28, 2026, at the age of 90.
Born in the parish of St. Thomas, Jamaica, to parents Violet Butler and Wilburn Lewis; predeceased by sisters Linda Mclean, Rebecca Mclean, Gloria Lewis and survived by brother Joseph Mclean; Winston carried the values of strength, resilience, discipline, and hard work throughout his life. In 1975, with the help of cherished niece Elsa May Byfield (1945-2025) he made the courageous journey to Canada to join his wife in search of new opportunities and a better future for his family. He settled in Kitchener Ontario, where he worked as a custodian at the University of Waterloo for many years, earning the respect of those around him through his dedication and strong work ethic.
Winston was a quiet and stern man at times, but beneath his reserved nature was a deep love for his family and a commitment to providing for them. He believed strongly in discipline, responsibility, and the importance of working hard in life; said values that became a part of the legacy he leaves behind. Winston enjoyed music and dancing; simple pleasures that brought him happiness and allowed his spirit to shine through. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering principles, and the lasting impact he had on those who knew and loved him. He will also be remembered by his infectious smile which carried a quiet warmth that could calm a room and put people at ease without a single word being spoken — a reflection of strength and presence he held throughout his life.
Winston is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Lillian Almira Lewis; who created a loving and welcoming home for their family and stood proudly beside him through life’s joys and challenges. Her unconditional love, strength, and dedication sustained him for many years, and she cared for him with remarkable love and devotion.
He is survived by his 5 children, Desmond Lewis (Carlene), Courtney Lewis (Adele), Winston Lewis (Lourena), Paulette Lewis (Neville), and Ida Derks (Richard). He is the proud grandfather to Nathan (Elizabeth), James, Courtney-Lynn (Don), Samantha, Jaylan, Mykaila (Brandon), Kyai, Olivia (Rome), Jackson, Stone and Cruz; and great-grandfather to Holden, Hannah, Joel, Taavi, Carter, Haley and Aliyah. He will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Though he may no longer walk beside us, the lessons he taught, the sacrifices he made, and the love he gave in his own quiet way will remain in the hearts of his family forever.
Visitation will take place at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 6 p.m – 9 p.m. and Thursday June 11, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funeral service to take place in the chapel of the funeral home on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Williamsburg Cemetery in Kitchener.
