Obituary of Dianne Sylvia Denhart

Dianne Sylvia Denhart, 85 years young, of Toronto and Waterloo, Ontario, passed away on June 4, 2026, in Waterloo.

 

Dianne was born in Sudbury, Ontario, to John Albert Newton and Alice Donelda Newton (née Hannon) on March 13, 1941. She went to high school at Acton District School and graduated in 1959, and later in life went on to earn a degree in History and Women's Studies from York University. She worked as a Teacher and Professor for George Brown College for over 30 years. She enjoyed Dance, Art, Choral Singing, and Anthroposophical studies. Dianne was passionate and keenly interested in travel, history, spirituality, political discourse, alternative health and wellness, and the human condition. A lifelong learner, Dianne always enjoyed reading and discussing current events with her close circle of friends and doing crossword puzzles. She was known to family as Nana, and her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.

 

Dianne is survived by brother Peter (Claire) of Toronto, her sons, Derek (Ashley) of Durham, Connecticut, and Jason (Janet) of Waterloo, and her beloved grandchildren James, Elyse, Alexandra and Rebecca. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Alice.

 

Dianne’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the incredibly skilled and caring staff at Parkwood Mennonite Home.

 

Private cremation has taken place.  A celebration of Dianne’s life will be held in the near future, with details to follow.
