Very sorry to have missed the celebration of life today. He would have understood since we were with our young grandson at the aquarium in Toronto. Justice Reilly was always a pleasure to appear in front of, if enough time was scheduled in for the "Reilly Factor".
My favorite memory is one that caught him off guard and with not much to say! We were picking a jury for a significant case, a drug dealer charged with assaultive behavior on sex trade workers who he sold to. During the selection HH asked if anyone in the jury panel had a conflict due to the people participating in the trial.
My dental hygienist later apologized as she could not remember my last name, but she simply stood up and said "I clean Andre's teeth". It certainly broke the tension in the room and left HH chuckling.
He has been missed on the bench for years and now will be missed in life.
My condolences to his family.

Bob Reilly was truly a gifted judge. Not only his razor sharp legal mind, but more importantly, the warmth and humanity he brought to the courtroom. I also got to know Bob as a friend who taught me many life lessons through his example.

Counsel were always very fortunate to appear before Justice Reilly. He was always kind, gracious and fair.
I was lucky to appear before him the first week after I was called to the bar when he presided in Provincial Court and on many motions and trials over the years when he sat in Superior Court. He knew the law but was pragmatic at the same time.
Many people say the courts provide justice but not always fairness. In his court, Justice Reilly unfailingly provided both.
Condolences to Jean and family.

I was blessed and knew Bob since the 1980s, and by early 1990’s we became close friends. I loved the man truly. He was extremely wise and analytical and sensitive, and I will always be incredibly grateful for his wisdom, and the quiet mentorship he offered me over the decades, going back to when I was a volunteer with a division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General. Bob like my own dearly departed father was solid like a rock and always backed me up when I did "good work". We always had intensely personal conversations of the most serious nature, and some of my fondest memories are of regularly having lunch with him in his chambers, enjoying the sandwiches and snacks Jean so kindly prepared for us. He was an amazing person and I morn his passing and will miss him tremendously! He was a “one of a kind personal friend” and mentor for the best and main part of my life.! My heart goes out to especially Jean, Michael, and the entire family. from Delmer B. Martin - Meadow Hill Farms & Repairs of ELMIRA

As I am sure many will attest, Justice Reilly was all a good Judge could, and should, be (and he did so in both official languages).
Famed for his late nights reading briefs and case law, he was uber prepared yet always brought counsel down softly when he disagreed with their position (and he was most likely right on the point of law).
He was civility incarnate in a court room and a complete gentleman outside it.
Glad to have appeared before him.

It is with deep sadness that I send this message to family and friends. Justice Reilly was one of kind. He taught me so much with his compassion, intelligence, kindness and dedication to the pursuit of justice for all. My fondest memory was when I was involved in a family law trial and my witness who was a grandmother was struggling to read a document that I presented to her. Justice Reilly could see that she was struggling and said to her "Darling, I have some readers on, do you think that would help?" She nodded yes and he handed over his glasses without hesitation for the rest of her testimony. This kind gesture was illustrative of the type of human being he was.
My heart is so heavy with gratitude that I had the opportunity to appear before Justice Reilly for many years. He had high expectations and taught me many things which made me a better person and a better lawyer.
His smile and twinkly eyes will remain with me foreover.
Sending love and respect to his friends and family.
Phaedra Klodner ("PK").

To the Family of Justice Reilly,
My thoughts and prayers are with you, as you mourn the death of Justice Reilly.
As a lawyer, it was almost a relief to read the docket at court and know that the matter I was on, would be heard by Justice Reilly. He always showed great compassion and shared wisdom with both counsel and the clients. He was a true gentleman in and out of the courtroom. He had a way of letting you know, the work we do, which s sometimes so difficult, was important and he was always very encouraging. He probably never knew how impactful his generosity meant to me. My sincere condolences to you.
