Obituary of The Honourable Justice Robert Duncan Reilly

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of The Honourable Justice Robert Duncan Reilly, who passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026.

Robert is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Jean Reilly; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Karen Reilly; his cherished grandchildren; Brock, Keegan, Sawyer, Abigail, Joel and Angelina and his beloved Standard Poodle, Geordie, whose companionship brought him immense joy.

Justice Reilly dedicated more than four decades of his life to the administration of justice in Canada. Recognized as one of the youngest individuals ever appointed to both the Provincial and Federal benches, he earned the respect of colleagues, counsel, and litigants alike through his unwavering integrity, wisdom, and compassion. Throughout his distinguished 40-year judicial career, Robert approached every case with fairness, humility, and a deep commitment to serving the public. He often remarked that serving as a judge was both an honour and a privilege, and he loved every minute of his work.

Beyond the courtroom, Robert was deeply committed to his community. He generously supported numerous charitable and civic initiatives and was known for his kindness, mentorship, and willingness to help others. His colleagues remember him not only as an exceptional jurist but also as a trusted friend whose guidance and encouragement touched countless lives.

Robert’s legacy will endure through the many people he influenced, the principles he upheld, and the family he loved so dearly. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.

 A Celebration of Robert’s life will be held at the Westmount Golf and Country Club, 50 Inverness Drive, Kitchener on Thursday, July 9, 2026 from 3 – 5 p.m.
