Obituary of Matthew James Petzke

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Matthew Petzke on June 4th, 2026 at the age of 53. Born August 31st, 1973 in Kitchener, Ontario, son of James and the late Susan Petzke.

Matt always found joy in the simple things that mattered most to him. He had a passion for anything with wheels and an engine. From cars to snowmobiles and dirt bikes; anything that could go fast, he appreciated the thrill, craftsmanship and freedom that they represented. Many of his happiest hours were spent in the garage, tinkering on projects, sharing laughs, and creating lifelong friendships. The garage was more than a workspace; it was a gathering place where stories were told, countless memories were made and many beers were shared with friends.

As much as he enjoyed his passions, nothing compared to the pride he felt for his family. Of all the titles he held throughout his life, Dad, Uncle, and Papa were the ones he wore most proudly. He loved watching his sons and nephews turn into men and was blessed with watching his granddaughters grow. He treasured the time he spent with them.

Matthew will be remembered for his kind heart, his unwavering love for his family, his sense of humour, his ability to make people feel welcome and his love for fast things.

He leaves behind his loving family: his father James, sister Laurie, his sons Bowe (Cassidy) and Austin and his granddaughters, Finleigh and Charlotte, as well as many nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at the K-W Naval Association, 315 Weber St N, Waterloo, on Sunday, July 5, from 1pm - 4pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society.
