Obituary of Alfred Kurt Schoger

Alfred (known to all who knew him as Alfie) passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

Alfie was predeceased by his parents, Mathias and Herta Schoger, and his nephew Colin Mann.

He is survived by his sister Hildegard “Archie” Mann (Joel) and their children Darcy Mann (Shanelle Sinclair), and Robyn Mann (Shane Brooks), and their families; and his brother Gary Schoger (Cathy) and their children Heidi Bennett (Adam), and Stephen Schoger (Caitlin Pearson), and their families.

Alfie will be remembered by all who knew him as a huge baseball fan who knew all the statistics of virtually every team and player. He was the go-to Google source before Google even existed for anyone who wanted to know any statistical fact about baseball. Alfie was also an avid fan of TV Western shows. Cheyenne was his favourite, but he liked all western TV shows and had a huge collection of recordings he’d watch over and over again. TV game shows such as The Price is Right, Let’s Make a Deal, and Family Feud were also on his daily watch list, along with classic TV shows such as Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley.  Although Alfie didn’t travel there, he would say that Milwaukee was one of his favourite cities, perhaps because some of his favourite TV shows were based in Milwaukee.

A Graveside Service will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, 243 Weber St E, Kitchener, on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 11:30 a.m.
