Obituary of Jean Baird (nee Attwater)

Passed away peacefully at WRHN @ Chicopee on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the age of 84.  

Jean will be forever missed by her loving sons Jason (Sylvia) and Jeremy (Melissa), and the lights of her eyes, her grandchildren Hannah, Jack, Ben, Joe, and Abby. She will also be missed by her nephew Bradley Newstead and niece Jackie (Al) and Keeley Newstead. 

Predeceased by her husband of 57 years, James Foster Baird.  

Jean spent her formative years growing up in Galt with her mother Margaret Attwater and her younger sister Glenda. Unfortunately, Jean did not have the opportunity to grow up with her father Lloyd, whose life was tragically taken in WWII.  

Eventually a handsome young man stole her heart and whisked her away to Kitchener before settling in their home in Waterloo. 

Jean began her working career at Bell Canada until it was time to start raising a family, which meant everything to her. After spending every waking moment with her boys and guiding them through those early years, she decided it was time to go back into the workforce and spent many years working at Zehrs. 

Jean enjoyed many wonderful friendships that stood the test of time. Whether through people she met at work, on the playground or at the rinks or ball diamonds, she held a special bond with each and every one of you (you know who you are). 

Special thanks to the wonderful and caring Palliative Care team in “Ice Cream Corner” at Chicopee. Their support and guidance through mom’s final days will not be forgotten.  

Jean’s family will receive friends during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Private family graveside service will take place at Parkview Cemetery in Waterloo.
