Obituary of Kenneth "Ken" Alvin Hilker

Passed away peacefully at WRHN-Midtown (formerly Grand River Hospital), Kitchener on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the age of 100.

Ken is survived by his loving children Karen (Dennis) Radman, Cheryl (Garry) Hicks, Wendy (Steve) Bott, Cathy Myers Jasztrab and (Dan) Jasztrab; step-father to Bruce (Suzanne) Boland and David Boland.  Will be fondly remembered by his 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by his first wife Elise (nee Maschke) Hilker (1965) and second wife Shirley (nee Moore) Hilker (2014).  Predeceased by his parents Melinda (nee Such) and Alvin Hilker; brother Donald Hilker and sisters Bernice Campeau and Marlene Wilhelm.

Ken was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was firmly rooted in his Christian faith. As a founding member of Grace Lutheran Church in Kitchener, he faithfully served the Lord and lived according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Ken and his family were active members of the church community, where he raised his children with the values and teachings of Christ. He gave thanks to God every day for the blessings of his children and their families, taking great joy and pride in watching them grow and flourish.

A proud veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy, Ken served his country during the Second World War with honour and courage. Following his military service, he dedicated approximately 35 years to Canada Post, where he built a respected career and retired as a Postal Officer.

Visitation will take place at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 from 12 noon to 1:45 p.m. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Robin Korsch officiating. A reception will be held in the funeral home’s Fireside Reception Room immediately following the service.  A private family interment will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Kitchener at a later date.
