It is with deep sadness and profound love that we announce the passing of Mabel Wayne (née Rose), who died peacefully on Tuesday July 28, 2026, at the age of 82, surrounded by the love of her family. After a courageous five-year battle with health challenges, Mabel is now at rest.

Born in Brigus, Newfoundland, Mabel demonstrated resilience and quiet strength from a young age. Seeking a new beginning, she moved to Ontario as a young woman and settled in Waterloo. While working as a food server at the university, she met the love of her life, Richard Wayne. The two built a life rooted in deep devotion, patience, and mutual respect, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2026.

Mabel spent her life in service to others. Driven by a deep sense of empathy and compassion, she entered the healthcare field as a Personal Support Worker. Her determination and calling to care for others led her back to school in her late 40s to fulfill her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. In addition, Mabel also obtained her license to cut hair. Her capacity for love knew no bounds. Guided by her unwavering faith, Mabel met the world with gentleness, forgiveness, and an open heart. Her default setting was to accept everyone she met as family, and her home was a sanctuary where friends and loved ones always found comfort, warmth, and non-judgmental listening. Above all, Mabel lived for her family. She was the devoted heart of her home, showering unconditional love and pride upon her children and grandchildren.

Mabel is survived and deeply missed by her beloved husband of 50 years, Richard Wayne; her cherished children, Melanie Gunkel (Peter) and David Wayne; and her adored grandchildren, Amelia Wayne, Adreana Wayne, Evan Wayne, and Evelyn Wayne, who brought immense joy to her later years.

Visitation will take place at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Tuesday August 4, 2026 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. from. Funeral service to take place in the chapel of the funeral home on Wednesday August 5, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
