Obituary of William Robert McCormick

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of William Robert McCormick (Bob) on July 29, 2026, at the age of 88. 

Bob had many enduring qualities, he was incredibly kind, gracious and always smiling. He will be remembered most of all for his loving nature towards his family, friends and everyone that knew him. That same abundance of love and appreciation was apparent in his relationship with every member of his family.

Bob was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement or share what he had with others. Bob will be remembered not only for his warm heart and gentle character but also for the values he lived by; kindness, integrity, respect and generosity.

Bob earned a BA in Political Science from the University of Toronto and an LLB from Osgoode and was called to the Bar with Honours in 1965. He practiced law for many years before joining the Ontario Government serving as a Commissioner with the Ontario Residential Tenancy Commission and ultimately retiring as Vice Chair of the Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal.

Bob is predeceased by his wife Pat of 55 years and his parents William and Frieda McCormick. He is survived by his daughter Lisa (Dana) Wells and son Greg (Andrea) McCormick. He was the adored grandfather of Sam Wells, Megan and Rachel McCormick. Bob will also be fondly remembered by many extended family and friends.

Bob lived at Waterloo Heights for the past three years and really enjoyed his time there. He loved playing cards, participating in social activities but most of all meeting new friends. He even modeled in the Waterloo Heights fashion show. We are grateful for the kindness of the staff and the residents of Waterloo Heights.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm. A celebration of Bob’s life will take place at a later date.
