Obituary of Donald Grant Booth

Donald Grant Booth passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in his 104th year, at University Gates Retirement Home in Waterloo.

Beloved husband of Emily Booth and the late Anne Booth (1997). Loving father of Janet Booth (St. Catharines). He was predeceased by his daughter, Leslie (2022) and his son, Ian (2023). He was also the devoted stepfather of Gary (Diana) Cooney and Karon Fidler.

Donald was born in Yunnanfu, China, to George and Laura Booth. When he was 12 years old, the family returned to Canada and settled in Fergus, Ontario. During the Second World War, Donald proudly served for four years with the Canadian Merchant Navy.

In 1954, Donald and his young family moved to St. Catharines where he began his career with Revenue Canada. His life was grounded in his love for his family and his steadfast Christian faith. He found great joy in camping and canoeing adventures with his young children and sharing his love of reading and gardening. He and Anne became charter members of St. Giles Presbyterian Church.

In 1972, they moved to Kitchener and his interests expanded to include sailing on Lake Huron, building two family cottages along its shores, and cross-country skiing. In retirement he and Emily travelled, he volunteered at Grand River Hospital, and he helped his daughters by building fences and renovating kitchens. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbours.

Donald’s love for his family and his deep, abiding faith in the Lord sustained him throughout his long and meaningful life. He will be remembered for his kindness, quiet strength, unwavering faith, and generous spirit.

In keeping with Donald’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Donald's life at a memorial service to be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow.
