Obituary of Michael Mijo Bacic

Michael Mijo Bacic sadly passed away on Sunday, August 2nd, 2026 at 1:30 a.m. in his bed at the Parkwood Mennonite Home. He was in his 87th year. He leaves behind his 4 strong children - Anita, Michail, Dany, and Miśko—as well as 4 grandchildren - Oscar (predeceased), Rocky, Haley, and Rowan—who will carry on and embrace life to the fullest, as he did. He will sadly be missed by his loving partner Danica Sop. He was predeceased by his brothers and sister: Martin Bacic of Georgetown, Joe Bacic of Toronto, Drago Bacic of Germany, and Barka Bacic of Croatia; he closes this chapter and is now united with them. Born in Croatia on December 16th, 1938 he was the first of all 5 children to immigrate, and start his new life in Canada on his own. During this time he laid railroad spikes and worked in a mill. Later, he enrolled in a polytechnical college and studied tool and die, and received his licence. He eventually secured a position at Northern Electric where he excelled for several years before venturing out to open his own numbered company - developing and building custom homes. He had a love for nature and adventure. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, singing, dancing, and hosting big cookouts with family and friends spent laughing with warm embraces. Always having an impact wherever he went, he will be remembered and missed by family and friends, as well as those back home in Croatia and abroad. 

Visitation will take place at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 80 University Ave W, Waterloo on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 11:30 a.m.
