Obituary of Paul Louis Moreau
Paul Moreau, our father, Papa, and Super Papa, died on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, with family by his side, after a long life, well-lived.
He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Shirley Moreau (nee Reynolds). He is survived by his three children, Liz Degutis (Vic), Mary Jane Moreau (Bill), and Mark Moreau. Papa will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew Moreau (Wendy), Elora Moreau (Christopher), Michel Moreau (Erin), Jonathan Moreau, Kellen Moreau (Raeline), Alex Degutis (Maria), Kirsten Degutis (Dan), and his great-grandchildren Callum, Tucker, Finn, Sloan, and Erika (deceased).
He is also survived by three of his siblings, Bill (Angela) in Scarborough, Peter in Thornbury, and Ann Gauthier in Penetanguishene.
Paul was one of twelve siblings who grew up on the shores of Georgian Bay in a time and place he referred to as “God’s Country”. He always spoke of his upbringing as ideal, with the freedom to roam, to be adventurous, and with enough siblings to always get a ball game going at a moment’s notice. His professional life was with the Toronto Dominion Bank, where he started as a very young man, with the then Dominion Bank. His many transfers took him, and his growing family, from Penetanguishene to Welland, Peterborough, St. Thomas, Sudbury, Kitchener, London, and finally Sarnia. He did the job in the old style, where service to customers was assiduous and paramount.
Paul was an autodidact, who read widely and always scrupulously followed world and business news. He had a sharp mind and a sharper wit. In his lifetime, sports and staying fit were part of his daily life well into his 95th year. Through the years, he played hockey, baseball, cycled, golfed and excelled in curling, where he reached provincial level competition. He was a dedicated Montreal Canadiens fan. Paul was a man of simple pleasures: ice cream, reading, watching sports on television, and time with his family. He was a man of integrity, profound duty and kindness.
We express special thanks to the nurses and doctors at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener, (WRHN), and gratitude for the friendships Paul enjoyed with his Iron Horse Towers neighbours.
People in his life would often share this sentiment. “I know your dad. He is a good man.”
Cremation has taken place according to Paul’s wishes. A memorial will follow in Penetanguishene, at a later date.
