Obituary of Ronald "Ron" Thomas Nichols

Ron passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Ron will be missed every day by his wife of 35 years, Laura Hagey-Nichols, his beloved children, Emma Sibley (Will) and Noah Nichols (Jasmine) and his cherished granddaughter, Briar. He will be fondly remembered by his sister, Susan Nichols.

Predeceased by his parents, Reginal and Miriam Nichols and his in-laws, Barb and Jack Hagey.

More than anything, Ron loved his family. After he retired, he flourished in his role as a stay-at-home Dad. He was dedicated to his children and took pride in their accomplishments. Ron was a kind, gentle and patient Dad who never missed an important moment in their lives. He adored his granddaughter Briar as much as she adored him. Ron also had a special place in his heart for our dogs, Lucy and Sawyer, who have been faithful companions.

An exceptional Math teacher, Ron taught at Bluevale Collegiate for 30 years. His classroom door was always open to offer support. He cared deeply about his students and had a lasting impact on the many lives he touched.

Ron loved car racing and became an expert photographer. Always with his camera in hand, Ron captured amazing family memories that we will treasure forever. He was also an amazing gardener who spent hours perfecting our yard. Sports and fitness played important roles in Ron’s life. His favourite places to be were at home or at the cottage in Southampton, where he created lasting friendships and memories.

Ron was a special man with great integrity and lived his life quietly supporting those he loved. He will be missed every day.

Cremation has taken place. To respect Ron’s wishes, a private family interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society.
