Obituary of Mary Eleanor McKenzie

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Mary Eleanor McKenzie (nee Dewar) on August 28, 2026, at the age of 97.

Mary was a devoted wife of 56 years to the late Douglas Graeme McKenzie, loving mother to James (Linda) and Gordon, and grandmother to Lexie and Matthew. She was also a cherished sister, aunt and friend whose presence brought immeasurable joy, comfort, and strength to all who knew her. She will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle spirit and unwavering love for her family.

Mary was born in St. George, New Brunswick, in 1929. She graduated from Acadia University with a degree in Home Economics and furthered her education at Syracuse University. She spent time as a lecturer at the University of Toronto and as a teacher with the Toronto and Waterloo school boards. Mary was also an active member of Westmount Golf and Country Club and enjoyed golfing and playing bridge.

Mary possessed a rare combination of quiet strength and gracious elegance. Always poised and dignified, she carried herself with effortless grace and remarkable class. She had a gift for making others feel welcome and valued, offering support and encouragement whenever needed. While she was known for her calm and steady presence, she also delighted those around her with her quick wit and great sense of humour.
