When I was 16 and broke my leg Uncle Herb made a special trip to the hospital to visit me. And when I was 21 he took me into his home and got me a good job I really didn't deserve. He was a good guy.

Our condolences Jane, to you and your family. We were saddened to learn of Herb's passing. You were good neighbours on Cardinal Cres. in Waterloo. Herb always made a point of speaking to my father on Remembrance Day at the Naval Club. Herb stopped by Cardinal Cres in the fall of 2012, shortly before my father moved to Terrace on the Square. My condolences to the family. When I was a page at the legislature during the spring of 1978 Herb was a great help to our family. He ensured that for each of the 8 weeks that I was in Toronto that I had a ride to and from Toronto back to St. Jacobs. Sometimes I got a ride with him. I will remember him as an MPP who served his continstituency well and was kind to a youth. Gestures of kindness are long remembered. I still have a picture taken where I am wearing my page uniform and am standing with Herb in the legislature.

The countless stories of how Herb has touched many is a testament to the wonderful person he was. Last year Herb kindly supported a charity I was organizing an event for. Two weeks later he approached me in the office regarding a charity event he was putting together, and with a big laugh said "Rebecca (I'm Rachel, he called me Rebecca lol) it's time to get your Rotary ticket!"
