It is fall yet I only heard today of John's passing. My condolences to all of the family, especially to Nico who I shared some wonderful times with in our youth. John Meijer was an exceptional man who was loved by all that knew him.

Deepest sympathy from the van Heyningen family. I'm so sorry we cannot be there on the weekend. We have so many wonderful memories of camping trips with the families, at Killbear. Every visit to Oom Jan and Tante Marijke was filled with great conversation, stories and of course Mama Meijer's Munchables. I developed a love for sailing from Oom Jan. He will be missed, but I am a better person for having been loved by Oom Jan, and treated as a part of the Meijer family.

Our sincere condolences to all the family at this time of sadness. John was a kind and gentle soul who loved to share his time, knowledge and wisdom and we are so grateful that he shared his many talents with women at our park teaching them how to do chip carving. My fondest memory is of him laying on the grass at our park on Manitoulin Island and enjoying a quiet nap under the gentle breeze of our maple tree. May you find comfort knowing that he is no longer in pain.

Mr. Meijer was our 'Grandpa Guy' that my boys remember. He had the twinkle and the kindness they will never forget nor will I. Children still play with the wooden blocks he so lovingly made for my boys 15 years ago, and we will always cherish them and his memory. You were all so lucky to have had him in your lives as an example for true and open-hearted living. All my sympathy to everyone in the family, having to be without him--
