Although I do not know your family, I am not unfamiliar to what you are going through. Jeff and I are friends of Bruce and Lori. I lost my parents 22 years ago, the same circumstances. Our family is praying for your family, that you will feel God's people lift you up and get you through this rough time in your lives. That's not to say it will end with today because it doesn't but as I have leaned on God, sometimes heavier then other times my grief has lessed over time. Please remember that each one of you is greiving differently and grief has no time line. Take as much time as you need and be patient with each other. Don't forget that your parents were human, so remember everything about them, always.

Dear Lynette, Richard, Tankika, Hanako, Evaleen, and Julian
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I could see through the photos, how close you were to your mom and grandma, Lynette and Tankika, and I will be sending you my comfort and love as you go through this difficult time grieving her death. From my own interactions with her, she was always welcoming and also very dear to my children, and I really appreciate that. She treated them as her own grandchildren, and I know they loved her. And it was always great to hear the stories of how Harold and Lena were like a new teenage couple, and I'm glad they found eachother and had such a good few years together.

Aunt Lena was a true woman of God who lived a live that exemplified what it meant to be the hands, feet, and heart of our LORD. She was a true model of a wife, mother, aunt, grandma, teacher, friend and Christian. Lena modeled for me what it meant to be gracious and loving... never judging, always loving. Lena will always have a special place in my heart. I was shocked and saddened to hear of Lena's passing. I work at Mennonite Central Committee and Lena has volunteered for many many years, sewing baby layette's and more recently, comforter tops. I remember how excited she was when she told me she was getting married again and going on her honeymoon. She and her husband came into MCC every couple of weeks in the last while, with a bag full of comforter tops that she'd sewn. She loved serving others, and she was always such a cheerful, friendly woman. I will miss her. I'm sorry for her family's loss. My prayers are with you at this painful time.

A few years ago, Lena and Verna and I met once a week to pray together. One day Lena read this verse to us: "Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord." [Romans 12:11] We talked about how God wanted us to serve Him zealously, no matter what our circumstances. I was inspired and challenged that day and have kept that verse in my heart as one to live up to ever since. Lena so beautifully modeled that verse in her own life.

My Mom and I were going over to Lena's for our friend Bernie's birthday. When we arrived Lena very coyly said "I have something to tell you, but I am not going to tell you until after dinner." She was beaming and her eyes were twinkling. So after dinner, I could not wait any longer. and I begged Lena to tell us her secret. She looked at us with the look of a school girl and proceed to tell us "I have a boy friend!" Giggling, She told us about Harold and how they had met. Lena said all the ladies at the Super Sixties would be mad because Harold was hers. She went and got a picture of Harold for us to see. I loved his smile. Lena held on to that picture for dear life. I knew they were in love. I could not wait to meet the man who had captured Lena's heart. And when I met Harold, it was obvious why he had done just that.

Lena was the most beautiful woman I know. Her smile lit up her whole face and you could not help but smile too. She never had an unkind word about anyone. Her grace and beauty surpassed all.
