For the short time I knew Sher, we worked together on space and a few other projects. I couldn't help but notice that she was always pleasant and considerate towards her colleagues, always walking in their shoes before making a decision.
Then she told me that she was going to have some tests done, and would be off for a few days. I awaited for her call so we could pick up from where we had left off, but sadly, that call never came.
My thoughts and prayers continued with her throughout her journey.
And now, my heart goes out to her children and extended family, as they mourn her loss.
With Sincere Condolences,
Sue Gooding

My condolences to the family. I was a friend of Sher's in high school at Central Peel S.S. We lost touch after high school and I found her again a few years ago on classmates. I was shocked to read of her passing in the KW Record and it brought tears to my eyes. I know she very proud of all her children, may you always have fond memories.

While it's true that Sherryl Anne was the only child of Kay and Cy, she was welcomed from a very early age into a large, extended family of cousins. These were divided arbitrarily into the northern and the southern groups. The southern group was made up of COLLUM'S with spouse and partners , Ron and Madeline, Doris and Ross (deceased), Ken and Maureen, and DIXON'S, Rosemarie and Scott, Tom and Sylvia, Wendy and Rob, Graham and Patti, Rob ( who died in a tragic canoeing accident on the Grand River), and Michelle and David.
The northern Group (from the back of the Ontario road Map) were the CARRUTHERS', Nancy and Vic and Bill, and the PEEBLES, Marianne and Brian, Doug and Linda, Barb, Jan and Gord, Marg and Larry.
Sherryl was fortunate to have stayed at the Carruthers for many weeks of summer vacation each year, were she became a little, or in some cases big sister to all her northern cousins. As we grew up and married or partnered, in all cases Sher was welcomed as a sister by the new addition to the extended family. We are happy to say that this happy relationship continued to the very end.
When Sher began her battle with cancer, she turned to her extended family, and we supported and encouraged her for many years. She accompanied us on many trips back to the north, where we stayed with Nancy and Vic, and helped to take down Moose Camp and explored the logging roads on Bikes (4 wheeled ones). She flew East with us to visit our daughter Erin in Newfoundland, and visited Cape Spear, and walked round the Battery at St Johns harbour. We had a plan to go to Scotland in 2014, but Sher pre-emptively went by herself in 2012.
She made her last trip to the north with us in September, and made the arrangements with the medical system in Englehart to provide for her treatments to continue while there. While we were at Nan and Vic's, Tom and Sylvia visited on their bike (of the 2 wheeled HD type ) riding across from Pembroke.
Sher also spent Thanksgiving with us (just last month) driving herself from Waterloo to our farm north of Kincardine in her blue Mustang convertible with the top down.
We made that trip from Kincardine to Waterloo many times in the last few weeks, to be at her side in the hospital and to support Jess, Paul and Laura, as we waited for the end.
We miss you very much, and will always be your big brother and sister,
Love you forever,
Linda and Doug

So sorry for the loss of Sherryl. I regret that as cousins we grew apart & that when we last saw each other we agreed to get together & catch up & that never happened. I am sad she is gone but have to remember her pain & suffering is over. Love to the kids & please lean on each other to get through this difficult time.

Sher's passing is being felt deeply in the School of Computer Science. She was a friend, an advisor, and a cheerful presence. It was obvious that her position as Administrative Officer was a passion, not just a job, and that made a tremendous, positive difference to the School. Everyone here will miss her and I will particularly miss her wise advice that helped me greatly in my role as Director of the School. On behalf of everyone who works in the School, let me extend condolences to Sher's family.

Laura, Jess and Paul, I was so blessed to know your mother. She was like a big sister to me and my best friend. We had so many adventures together, and shared so many experiences that will now have to last me a lifetime. She loved you guys so much and was so proud of all of you. I hope you all carry on her legacy of being the best person you can possibly be, showing compassion, trust and support for others. Your mom was always there for me and I for her. It was hard for me to move away and leave her in Waterloo, especially when she got sick again. She loved it up here at the cottage, and we always had her favorite wine or a wee drop o scotch waiting for her. Your loss is unbelievable, but I know your mom did everything in her power to make sure everything was taken care of for you all. Paul, go on loving her precious Mustang, she was so happy to have the car of her dreams and I am glad she had time to enjoy it. Jess and Laura, I hope you can get back your dogs soon, as your mom loved them so much and was sad to see them leave the family. I met your mom almost 14 years ago when I became a member of the WCAC. Your mom took me under her wing, and in a very short time I became a volunteer and board member of her beloved Button factory. She was a mentor, friend, an inspiration and cheerleader to me and so many others that were part of the group. She touched so many lives in her passion for the Arts, music and education. I would imagine her reception will be overflowing with politicians, professors, directors, artist, writers, musicians, friends and loved ones. There is no way I can convey how special she wa to me, and I thank you all for letting me have her as a friend. All my love and best wishes for your continued successes in life. I will not be attending this Saturday, as I had a chance to spend time with her on her birthday at the hospital and time to say goodbye. She was still full of hope for the future, and wanted to be there for you a lot longer, but I know that she was aware of time running out. Linda Brubacher

I am saddened to hear of my friend Sher DiCiccio's death, and if I still lived in town I'd definitely attend her service and reception. We met in the 1980's and were friends in the Canadian Authors Association and the Waterloo Community Arts Centre, working on many projects together, over many years. Sher was a wonderful person, artistic in many areas, organized, caring and with a great sense of humour. She was a woman who got things done, and made a difference in her community. My condolences to her family; we'll all miss her. Sincerely, Margaret Springer St Catharines
