I have spent this morning thinking of Norm Lange and the all those attending his funeral this morning. Norm was pastor, friend, and colleague over the past 50 years, officiating at both my confirmation (1964)and wedding (1972). Though the past number of years our communications were mostly via Christmas letters, it was always a joy to hear from him. I feel sorrow that he is no longer walking among us. But knowing that "neither death nor life ... nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord," I look forward with joy to the day we will meet again in the home our Lord has prepared for us. Dear Mary Jean, Marie and Brian, Peter and Barbara, and grandchildren, It is with deep sadness that we received the news of Uncle Norman's passing. He will always be very fondly remembered - for the love he showed us cousins whenever he visited, his gracious concern when we faced our own troubles, and his delight when I began teaching as a professor at his alma mater, Concordia University College. His storytelling was superb and I learned much about our family history from him, including many funny incidents as they were growing up on the farm. I also offer my sympathies to my parents, Eric and Sylvia Lange, and Norman's other siblings/my aunts, Bertha Lange and Lydia Kemp. May our love for him, his life of service and his many gifts continue to be carried in our hearts. God has called him home, to join our other loved ones on the other side.

Pastor Norm was my predecessor at St. Peter's in Gadshill. I remember asking Norm if he would meet me for coffee so that I might 'pick his brain' about how to minister to the people of St. Peter's as it was my first call and I wanted some direction.
His words of wisdom have never left me. He said, "love them to bits and they'll love you to bits right back". The good people of St. Peter's still love him to bits! And so do I! God's peace dear Norm. God's peace. May you ever be near to our hearts until we meet again. May I be in some small way the same kind of pastor you were to the people you have served.
