Michael Hearn

Obituary of Michael Hearn

With great sadness we announce the death of Michael Hearn. He died suddenly at St. Mary's Hospital on Monday, January 6, 2014 due to complications of heart surgery. Michael was 75 and will be deeply missed by his wife Mary Liz, his daughters Colleen and Kathleen and grandchildren Ben and Megan. He was predeceased by his parents Maurice and Eleanor Hearn, brother Jim Hearn and sister Betty Payne. Michael was a Superintendent of Business for the Waterloo Regional School Board. For 31 years he worked very hard to ensure schools were safe and effective learning centres. Another big priority in his life was playing bridge with his friends. He rarely missed the weekly game in 45 years. In 1998 he retired from the Board, taking time to travel, hike with friends, play more tennis and join community groups; the K-W Optimist Club and the Kitchener-Waterloo Gyro Club. In 1983, Michael built his dream home on Sunfish Lake. This is where he was happiest: cutting the lawn, raking leaves and hanging out on the dock with family and friends. We invite you to share memories of Michael at the visitation on Monday, January 13, 2014 from 1:30 - 3:30 pm or 6:30 - 8:30 pm at the Erb and Good Family Funeral Home in Waterloo. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Michael RC Church on University Ave. in Waterloo, followed by a reception in the church basement. In lieu of flowers we ask donations to be given to the St. Mary's Cardiac Unit or the Walter Bean Trail, Grand River Conservation Foundation. Arrangements for donations may be made through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
