Obituary of Howard Herter
Howard died peacefully, surrounded by family, at Beechwood Manor in Waterloo on Monday, February 24, 2014 in his 98th year.
Howard was predeceased by his beloved wife, Hope (nee Winkler) in 1994; son, Ronald Herter in 2011; parents, Christian and Edna (nee Becker) Herter; brothers, Cecil Herter (in infancy), Jack Herter, Bob Herter (wife Betty); and sister, Gladys (husband Morris).
Howard is survived by his daughter-in-law, Nancy Herter; grandchildren, Jeff Herter and wife Theresa and Wendy Joyes and husband Tom; great-grandchildren, Cody, Ethan, Paige, and Austin; and great-great-grandchildren, Kailey and Serena. Howard is also remembered by his sister-in-law, Bernice Herter, many nieces and nephews, and his former daughter-in-law, Tanis Mullin.
Howard was a jeweller at Frank's Jewellers is Waterloo for many years. He served in the R.C.A.F. from 1940 - 1945 and was active in service on the Waterloo Hydro Commission from 1955 - 1977, in the Kiwanis Club, the Waterloo Horticultural Society, and St. John's Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Howard was a dedicated fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and lived life to the fullest.
Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of Howard during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, February 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Howard's life will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Fred Ludolph officiating. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery, Waterloo. A reception will follow in the funeral home's Fireside Reception Room.
