Obituary of Mary Ruth Bullas

BULLAS, Ruth (nee Richardson) 1918 - 2014 Mary Ruth Bullas died peacefully surrounded by family and a few friends at Parkwood Mennonite Home in Waterloo on Saturday, March 8, 2014 in her 96th year. Ruth was born in Arthur, Ontario. She was predeceased by her parents Rev. William Richardson in 1929, her mother Beulah (nee Gale) Richardson in 1963 and her step-father Allison McIntyre in 1971. Ruth had one brother Robert who was killed in World War II. Ruth's husband Roy Knapp Bullas predeceased her in 1971. Coincidentally, Roy passed away forty-three years earlier on March 8th. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law John Hicks in 2007. Dearly loved mother of Robert Bullas, Gale Trapp, Pam Hicks and Cindy Jutras and husband Ron. Loving grandmother of Amanda Trapp, Amy, Lauren, Jessica and Marla Jutras. She also leaves behind her loyal and loving caregiver of nine years Catalina Dasugo of the Philippines. Ruth was a graduate of the Toronto School of Design. She was an excellent seamstress and also did beautiful knitting. She was a homemaker and cared for her family all her life. She had a passion for the outdoors and took pride in her flowers. Ruth enjoyed travelling and seeing the world. One of her favourite places was Hawaii. She cruised Alaska, the Mediterranean, New England and the Panama Canal. She also visited Europe, the South Pacific and the Canadian Rockies. Ruth was an avid reader - of the newspaper, biographies and romance novels. She loved to watch sports on TV in particular tennis, golf, skating and horse events. Family, friends and her love of pets were most important to her. As a child she spent her summers in Bayfield. After her marriage to Roy when she was raising her four children, her summers were spent enjoying the cottage on Manitoulin Island. She will be sadly missed by her dear friends Lois Hunter and Sally Bauer and her little Yorkie named Chloe. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home's Fireside Reception Room. A private family burial and commital service has taken place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener.
