As a student in the 1960's,I met Anu at the University of Waterloo when he was an instructor in the School of Architecture. He became a good friend of mine and he painted a wonderful painting of me with a light on my eyebrows facing outward, against a backdrop of many people facing away toward the back all focused on a small light away in the distance. We talked a great deal about philosophy of the designer and the link to mathematics and architecture. It is sad to see that he has passed away. He was a great inspiration to many students. I thanked him for that, and I wish him well on his continuing journey.

Anu was very encouraging to me when I first showed up at architecture school at UW to do first year. I was a fish out of water but he was a friendly face and made me feel OK about being there. I wlll always remember his kindness in a place that was not always so kind.

Dear Anupam da, This was your last email to me on 1st March…. “….Only a few moments ago prior to receiving your email on a solitary, cold Sunday morning at the breakfast table I was listening to the same song of Hemanta that stirs your soul! Can you believe this coincidence? Every time I listen to this song I find myself transferred to a faded world I have left behind, a world full of people I met, loved, lived with and lost.” My friend, yes - you have left us for a world where you can only get eternal peace. Hope, you are now having ample time to think about Tagore – your first love. Stay well – I won’t receive Sunday morning phone call from you anymore reminding me that one day you would visit Vancouver and we will have luchi together during breakfast. I knew Anu from my days as a post-graduate student at the University of Waterloo 1989-1990. We became good friends. He was very knowledgeable on architecture, he drew like an angel, his love for Louis Kahn and Corbusier's work in India was immense. Even after I left to go back to my home country in Malta we occasionaly kept in touch by email. I salute your memory Anupam and may you find a peaceful abode in the cosmos beyond. With great esteem. Hi I was really sad to hear about Anu's passing. Found out about the funeral too late to attend but my deepest condolences to you all. He was a indeed a friendly face as one of my professors at UW School of Architecture; it was a pretty tough place as a first year student, but I will always remember how very kind he was to me (and to the other students). I lost touch with him after I graduated but my memory of him carries on..
