Dear Bonnie: I just now learned of Dr. O'Connell's passing. I am very sorry that I missed the announcement. Dr. O'Connell was up until 2013 the only family Doctor I knew and dealt with since I arrived from Jamaica as a little boy more than forty years ago. He was a gentleman of gentlemen to the core. I have so many fond memories of him, especially his love of music which he used quite effectively in his practice to make you believe you haven't been waiting that long to see him for your 5 pm appointment when it's 6:30 :). He was so caring and did not hesitate to offer his advice and support well past his "full" retirement (I was in attendance at his 'retirement' at Freeport). I fondly recall some advice I sought from him with regard to my friend who was going through a heart procedure a few years ago. In relating his own personal experience, he summed it up this way, "whenever Bonnie and I are driving through the country, and I am passing a pig farm, I always take my hat off because I have part of them in me....your friend should not worry". Bonnie, although I know that none of us can live forever, I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences over the passing of Doc, to you and the rest of his family. Thank you for sharing him with so many.

Our condolences and thoughts are with Bonnie and your family at this difficult time. We will always remember Charlie entertaining us with jokes while playing his harmonica. His zest for life was always quite apparent whenever he was present. We consider ourselves very privileged to have been in his company a number of times. Rest in peace dear Charlie.

Dear members of the O'Connell family, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Charlie. I often saw him, over the years, at St. Francis Parish, for Sunday Mass. He was always cheerful and engaging. I know he was well respected by his patients, including some of our Community members (Resurrectionists). May he rest in peace, and may the consolation and hope of the resurrection of Jesus be yours. God bless you! Rev. Paul S. Voisin, CR Rector, St. Theresa's Cathedral, Hamilton, Bermuda

Sincere condolences, Bonnie, on the loss of a great man. I always enjoyed Charlie's wonderful sense of humour. He was very good to the Resurrectionists and was a compassionate doctor, never turning anyone away who needed him (of course that always made him late, but he had great magazines in the waiting room...) I also enjoyed our times at the lobsterfest, he with his surgical scissors. He will be missed.
