July 1, 1935 – June 6, 2017

Passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, weeks before his 82nd birthday, surrounded by his family.  Much loved by his wife of 51 years, Harpreet, his children Harmeet (Ketaki), Minda (Doug), and Kanwal (Razili) and absolutely adored by his grandchildren Simran, Logan, and Taavi.

Born in Peshawar, India, Dr. Ahuja received his education, including his medical education, in Mumbai before immigrating to the United States in 1962 where he completed his medical internship and residencies.  Five years later he relocated again, now with his bride, to Montreal, Canada.  For the next several years, Dr. and Mrs. Ahuja expanded their family and tried out one end of the country to the other, eventually settling in Kitchener-Waterloo where Dr. Ahuja dedicated himself to a 40 year general surgery practice. 

During that time Dr. Ahuja wielded his surgical scalpel with skill, built a large network of friends and colleagues, volunteered many hours with various boards, committees, and tribunals, and contributed to the development of the local Sikh community.  His generous heart compelled him to lend a helping hand wherever he saw a need.  While generally eschewing accolades, he received the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Award for Community Service in 2002. 

Always full of vitality and positivity, Dr. Ahuja was well known for the twinkle in his eyes and the broad smile for anyone who crossed his path.  He treated everyone with respect and warmth and approached his life with an infectious sense of humour and adventure, anchored in a foundation of pragmatism.

According to his wishes, the cremation has already taken place.  A memorial to celebrate Dr. Ahuja’s life will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Luther Village in the Park from 4-7pm.
