Obituary of Cynthia Geraldine Calder
Cynthia Geraldine Calder (nee Lawrence), born January 4th 1937. Cynthia was the fifth child of a family of nine with six sisters and two brothers, of Wilfred Howard & Sybil Augusta Lawrence of Elsies River Cape Town South Africa. Cynthia had a fantastic adventurous life growing up there with her family. Mum use to tell us wonderful stories about growing up there and going on trips with her family in the old army truck Opah Wilfred acquired. After leaving the army, he served in El Alamein, & the middle east during the war. Omah Sybil was a seamstress and made all the girls there wedding dresses when they all got married. They left Cape Town in 1956, sailing to England and settling in Bristol. Cynthia had a job as a printers assistance and also worked part time at the Odeon Picture House. She met our father Malcolm at a dance at the “Glen”. My father had not long returned from serving in Korea , when at the dance he noticed mum dancing with a Sailor! He approached the sailor & said your dancing with my wife! The poor sailor ran off, that was the beginning for them and they married December 1958. They went on to have six children; Trevor, Kevin, Elizabeth, Michelle, Malcolm & Nicola. In 1969 they decided to immigrant to Canada, settling in the K-W area and briefly living on a farm in Drayton. Mum & dad worked hard raising us , times were hard, they had there moments but they loved each other. Dad passed away February 2015 and before he went he asked our dear brother Kevin to look after mum! As mum had dementia, Kevin was devoted to our parents, even with disabilities of his own. Kevin kept his promise to dad to look after our mother, which he did 24/7 until she passed! We salute you dear brother Kevin, none of us could ever walk in your shoes. Mum & dad were so proud of you and never a more devoted son to our parents. Mum & dad loved us all. They loved there grandchildren; Natalie,James, Alex, Cooper Kyle Lucas Cameron & great grandchildren; Anthony, Finley, Robyn. Dad was waiting for mum, together they can dance again, God bless you mum "Totseins Ma ek is life vir jou " we'll make sure Kevin is looked after and we'll keep our promise to you & dad to do so. Until we all meet again.xxx
