Dear Marne,
Sincere condolences to you and the family on this unexpected loss. "Rick" will be missed and remembered by all who knew him for his happy and positive look on life and the game of golf. For me personally he has always been a symbol of the Oktoberfest golf tournament and it will not be the same without him.
Wishing you every best wish and the strength to carry on.

So sorry to hear of Richard's passing so soon. Richard was a long time customer of ours and he personally gave me such joy when he came here.
He was always happy and had me laughing most of the time. I'm sure that he worked hard right up to the point when he couldn't anymore, because he enjoyed it so much. I have many fond memories and am grateful for having knowing such a fine man. Our sincere condolences to his family from myself (Ursula) and all of the staff here that knew him....he will be missed.

So many fun memories of Rich, especially at KCI. He always made me laugh especially in French Class. He was the best friend of my husband, Harvey Jackson, Bob (Itch) Froelich and myself. He was also the best man at my wedding to Harv, in 1958. His infamous remark at the time was, "If I'm the best man, why are you marrying Harv." . We shared the stage at our 150th KCI reunion in 2005 along with Tom Frederick the Master of Ceremonies. Many memorable moments will always be remembered. He had nicknames for everyone. Bushwhacker, The Goof, Marge the Barge, Jake the Snake etc. I remember that he and Marne made the effort to attend the Olympic Torch Relay in Port Elgin, in December 2009. I was a torch bearer and he got by security and gave me a big hug. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. His memory will stay with all who knew him forever. My sympathy goes out to all the family. Love, CJ

My first round in South Hampton was with Richard, and I loved every second of it. He had a great sense of humour and was a joy to be around.

Rich Putnam was my first cousin. We Neilson kids (Mary, Bob, Jane and John) loved all the Putnam boys, but Rich ("Uncle Erch") was our favourite. We knew him best and we all thought he was the funniest person on earth. He was older than us, but was always a big kid. His many visits were full of jokes, red licorice, silly games and never-ending fun. He teased us endlessly and we loved every minute of being in his presence. As we got older, nothing much changed. How we loved this warm, generous, fun-loving man! And our parents loved him just as much. We all have great memories of him and we will miss him dearly.

Members of the Kitchener-Waterloo Association of REALTORS® (KWAR) are saddened by the loss of Richard Putnum. Richard was a valued member of the KWAR for over 42 years and led the association as president of the Board in 1983 during a significant time of a change.
In 2012 when the KWAR was celebrating our 75th anniversary, Richard helped us out by agreeing to be part of our commemorative video. He was just wonderful to work with, and such a delight.
He appears at 2:20, 4:40 and 11:30 (where he has the final word) in this our 75th anniversary video: copy and paste this link if you'd like to view it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpkY29M_Re4
I also remember, for many years he would drop by the board office just to deliver fresh baked pastries for the girls in the office.
He will be missed,
Tania Benninger, Stakeholder Relations

Unfortunately I'll be missing the 53rd annual golf festivities up in Southampton this weekend.
And I'll be unable to attend the visitation or funeral as I'll be on a golf tour to Scotland, leaving Wednesday.
What I will be doing is carrying Richard's memory with me as we play some of the great golf courses on the Auld Sod.
You are greatly missed my friend.

A phone call from Rich or a casual meeting somewhere else, always took the form of a ribbing contest between the two of us to see who could come up with the best punchline. I enjoyed our hilarious chats over those 30+ years as well as those many rounds of golf. My inclusion to the 1986 trip to Scotland is still to this day a very special memory to me since it was Rich that made it possible for an "outsider" to join the Westmount group on that unforgettable journey to the home of golf. Very rarely did we ever have a serious moment when we were together because laughter was our juice to make the day a better one. I witnessed his kindness and his generosity but most of all I was the honored recipient of his friendship. I miss you already my friend as the memories flood in. He rarely referred to me as Johnny but preferred the moniker he personally placed upon me all those years ago as The Great Kabooki. I still chuckle inside when I look back on all those encounters. Hit 'em straight Rich and show the boys upstairs what it's like to "One Putt".

Richard was my work dad. He always was sure to ask me how I was doing and showed genuine concern and caring. While he was still working, he often came to me for help calculating property taxes. I was always happy to help him. Maybe we will all lose some of the extra pounds that we have put on, from all the treats that Richard was always so generous to bring to his girls, he never would take no for an answer. I miss you already Richard Putnam. <3

Rich was a very good friend for many years and we enjoyed playing golf together in KW, Arizona and Scotland. We also enjoyed stopping by the house on Roslin St on Friday after work for drinks, snacks and laughter .... and with Marne too. Rich help us by our most favourite Victorian house on George St in Waterloo, then help us sell it when we moved to Vancouver. Rich was never at a loss for works especially when he was at the right place, at the right time when somebody needed to say something spectacularly funny or outrageous. We are sure that Rich is in heaven negotiating on a patio with St. Peter whilst drinking Crown Royal and also telling tails of his friends still on this earth. Rich - you will be very much missed by so many. May God bless you.

Richard was the kindest, most generous gentleman I have ever had the privilege to know. If he didn't like someone, I would never know. He treated everyone like they were his best friend. If I helped Rich at work, I was repaid tenfold. He never took without giving back, yet he always gave without looking for thanks. If you didn't let Rich know just what he meant to you, you will be feeling terrible -as I am, for such a small gesture would have meant the world to Richard Putnam. My heartfelt condolences to Marne and the Putnam family. Rich - you will be missed. Love Ann

To the entire Putnam family,
I first met Richard in my early days at Westmount when I began working for Gus Maue in 1972.
We became friends immediately and enjoyed so many wonderful times together. In 1973, for the Oktoberfest Charity Pro-Am it was decided that we would put up score sheets on the windows at
Westmount to make the scoring more visible. Richard was always the first to assist me in putting these sheets on the windows (taping, etc) the night before the first round. The challenge was the fact that were consuming considerable refreshments, it took much longer to get those score sheets on those windows. We always got it done, and Richard made sure, at least by midnight!
That was just fine. He was one of my heroes and a wonderful friend. His involvement with the Oktoberfest Charity Pro-Am was something that he enjoyed so much, working with Gus and Ernie in presenting the finest Pro-Am your could ever be invited to. Richard and Marne were so gracious in inviting me to stay at their home on Roslin when I came to play in the Oktoberfest. They made the tournament so special and over so many years Richard was the connection to the charity, being Big Brothers and Big Sisters, as they benefited from the Oktoberfest Charity Pro-Am. I will miss Richard very much and send my personal Condolences to the Putnam Family.
Tim McCutcheon.
