Obituary of Murray William Dunnette

Born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1930, Murray William Dunnette passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the age of 93.

 

Murray was predeceased by his parents William and Matilda Dunnette, sisters Eileen and Marian, brother Harry, and his dear son Paul.

 

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Arlene (nee Kelly) of 69 years, son Kelly, daughter Lisa, grandchildren Paul, Andrew (Linh) and Conor, and his great-grandchildren Jade, Jocelyn, Julianne, Anthany, and Harley.

 

Murray enjoyed all sports. He played Junior ‘A’ and Senior ‘A’ Hockey, as well as Senior Lacrosse. He refereed for many years in the OHA League.

 

Together with his wife Arlene, Murray owned and operated Dunnette Jewellers in Kitchener for over 30 years.

 

He served on the Board of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church and the Westmount Golf and Country Club where he was also a member for 67 years, the Kitchener Chamber of Commerce, and the Canadian Jewellers Association. He was the past President of both the North Waterloo Heart & Stroke Foundation, and the KW Humane Society. He was a member of the 24 Karat Club, the KW Racquet Club, and the Conestoga Rotary Club where he was a Charter Member.

 

Arlene and Murray enjoyed their winters in Delray Beach, Florida, where they belonged to the Pine Tree Golf Club, the Little Club, and the Delray Beach Club.

 

Cremation has taken place and a private family ceremony will be held. A public celebration of Murray’s life will be announced at a later date.
