Obituary of Gerald Norman Balm

Passed away peacefully at Lanark Heights LTC, Kitchener on the morning of Friday, March 1, 2024 at the age of 86.

Survived by his wife Mary, son Dan (Lisa), daughter Monica. He loved dearly his grandchildren Alexandra, Noelle, Saba, Thomas, Rebecca and great-grandchildren. Also survived by his sisters Yvonne, Sheila (Claude) and sister-in-law Lilah and many nieces and nephews.

Gerry was a teacher with the Waterloo Catholic Separate School Board for 33 years. He loved politics, cricket, education and being in his garden with the birds.  Above all, family was what he treasured most.  From the day he arrived in Canada from India in 1968, he was proud to be Canadian and he dutifully sponsored his sister and sister-in-law in coming to his new country.

He spent his last days in the care of some great people at Lanark LTC, who provided him with comprehensive care with his ever increasing complex needs.

Visitation will be held at St. Mark’s RC Church, 55 Driftwood Drive, Kitchener on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 12 to 12: 45 p.m.  The Funeral Service Outside of Mass will immediately follow in the sanctuary of the church at 1 p.m.  Cremation to follow. Family and friends are invited to a reception in the parish hall following the service. A private family interment will be held at a future date at Memory Gardens, Breslau.

Condolences for the family and in lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to Hope for Dementia / Assessment and Diagnostic of Dementia may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S. Waterloo at www.erbgood.com
