Obituary of John Goldsworthy

Born January 8, 1927, in Southampton Ontario, passed away August 4, 2012, Elmira Ontario. John is survived by his wife of sixty years, Helen (nee Good), two sons, Peter (Lois), Mark (Jennifer), sister Mary (Paul), grandchildren; Elizabeth (Nicholas), Christopher (Rachel), Paul (Michelle), Jack, Jason (Tiffany), Taylor (Ally), and great-grandchildren; Grace, Liam, Ella, Avery and Savannah. John was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Esther (nee Schroeder) Goldsworthy, and brothers Ralph, and Robert (Jean), and sister Katherine (Joe). John is also survived by brother- & sisters-in-law Robert & Marylin Good, Pat Good and Jean Good as well as many nieces and nephews. John believed in the importance of service, and spent over a decade on the Waterloo Public Library Board, some of those years as chair. He also served many years as an Elder on the Session of First United Church. During the Second World War, he volunteered in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve (RCNVR). He served on corvette warships in the north Atlantic. Prior to WW2 John worked at Bell Canada, and after the war continued with them for a short time. Following that he joined the family company, R.D.Goldsworthy & Co. Ltd, and stayed there till retirement. The Goldsworthy family will receive friends at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate John's life will take place on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home, Rev. Kellie McComb officiating. Reception to follow in the Fireside Reception Room and a private family interment will take place in Avonbank Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts to the Parkinson Society Canada or the Cardiac Fitness Association would be appreciated and may be arranged through the funeral home www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
