Edward Ray

Obituary of Edward Ray

Passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at home on Friday Dec. 7, 2012 in his 79th year. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, in 1933, Ted was the son of Roy Byron Ray and Jessie Emeline Ray (Mackenzie). Jessie later remarried Norman Catton. Ted was the loving husband of Nancy (Bowman) married 49 years. Loving father of Susan Jordan (Brian), David Ray, and Michael Ray. Grandfather of Alexandra and Taylor Jordan. Dear brother of Robert Ray (Elinore). He will also be missed by his cousins, and nieces and nephews. Ted began his working career in Kitchener, first with Mutual Life and then working with his brother in Accountancy. Ted found his career when he began teaching, first with the Kitchener and then the Waterloo County Board of Education elementary school system, eventually becoming a Vice Principal. Ted took early retirement and began the second phase of his life which consisted of new professions, extensive travel with Nancy, innumerable hobbies, as well as many services to his community. Ted's first new profession was driving people to and from the airport and various appointments around the region. He and Nancy travelled in their Roadtrek van extensively, frequently spending several weeks each winter at many favourite places in Florida. Ted was very involved in the Highland Glen Camera Club, the Marmo Travel Club at Rockway, the '404' Art group, the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario, and the Adult Recreation Centre where he had given over 100 slide presentations. Ted also wrote for the newsletter 55-Forward produced by the City of Waterloo. Ted will be remembered by all for his great sense of humour, his love of music, and his passion for life. Friends are invited to share their memories of Ted with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Tuesday December 11, from 1-2:30 and 7-9 p.m. A Memorial service will be held at Parkminster United Church, 275 Erb Street East Waterloo on Thursday December 13, at 2p.m. A Reception will follow.
