Carl Eichholz

Obituary of Carl Eichholz

CARL DAVID EICHHOLZ (1937-2012) Carl left this earth suddenly to be with our Lord on Saturday December 8th, 2012, in his 75th year, after suffering a fatal heart attack. Carl was the cherished husband and best friend of June (nee Zacharias) for 51years. Beloved father of Kim (John) Nielson, Dan Eichholz, Carrie (Chad) Powers. Grandpa to Jake, Jessie, Josh (Nielson) and Jadyn & Taylor (Powers). Carl will be sadly missed by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Henry and Verna (nee Seip) Eichholz, sister Bernice (1992), brother Fred (2009) and sister-in-law Audrey (2012). Carl was a proud resident of Waterloo his entire life. A graduate of The Canadian Jeweller's Institute (1964). Carl worked in the jewellery industry for Becker's, Bergman's, and Frank's Jewellers for 46½ years. A self taught goldsmith, jewellery designer and appraiser, watchmaker and clock repairman. He claimed that he worked at his hobby, finally retiring in 2001 at age 63 because of health issues. Carl was a Cub Scout leader of 1st and 8th Waterloo cub packs for 15 years; a member of 137 Co. (mechanical transport) Canadian Army Militia for 3 ½ years. He was a member of Kitchener-Waterloo Musical Productions for 23 years, singing, designing and building sets. Including the sets for the first productions of Anne of Green Gables and Fiddler on the Roof and eventually became President of the organization. Carpentry and repairing any kind of mechanical device were among some of his hobbies, and he loved helping people. He would tackle anything, saying "can't" wasn't in his vocabulary. He enjoyed a good laugh and was a prolific joke and story teller. He loved the outdoors, especially at Lutheranch where he loved fishing, campfires, playing the banjo and singing with family and friends. Special thank-you to the compassionate nursing staff in ICU (Grand River Hospital). The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo.
