Mary Reid

Obituary of Mary Reid

Kathleen Mary Reid (nee St. Hilaire) Kathleen was born 106 years ago on July 29, 1906, in a farm house north of Trenton, Ontario. Her long and pleasant life was made happy by her great love of family and friends. She attended a country school and attended Business College, a considerable achievement for a young woman of her time and circumstances. After working at the paper mill in Glen Miller, Ontario, she met and married Gordon Reid in 1927. Her life was one of adventure. She and Gordon along with their two children, Jack and Linda lived in several small communities in Northern Ontario and Quebec. The depression years were particularly difficult times, however, Kathleen's determination and strength of character made her the backbone of her family. In 1947, the Reid's settled in Toronto until Gordon's retirement from The Foundation Company in 1965. Eventually settling in Waterloo, Kathleen survived Gordon's passing in 1990. She then lived independently for 18 years. At the age of 98, she moved to Heritage House in St. Jacobs where she has spent her last happy years. Kathleen survived her husband Gordon Reid :1904-1990; Her beloved daughter Linda Gibson :1933-1999; her daughter in law Frances Reid; 1927-2008. Her parents; Charles and Clarissa St. Hilaire and her siblings; Delphine, Beatrice and Charles. Her sister Thelma, aged 102 years, lives in Trenton, Ontario She will be missed by her family; Jack Reid; Kathleen and Robert Arnold: John and Diane Reid and Margery Parsons. Kathleen's life was enriched by her devotion and love for her two children: Jack and Linda; three grandchildren: Kathleen, John and Margery; five great -grandchildren: Jennifer, Sara, Andrew, Devon and Christopher; and seven great-great grandchildren: Isabelle, Milla, Kamryn, Jaden, Jackson, Emma, and Abrielle.
