Mary Ruetz

Obituary of Mary Ruetz

Passed away suddenly at the Village of Winston Park on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the age of 91. Beloved wife of 69 years to Harold, Mae was loving mother to Greg Ruetz and wife Gail of Kelowna, B.C., Pam Budd and husband Wayne of Waterloo, ON, and Peter Ruetz and wife Susan of Coquitlam, B.C. Mae will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Michael (Lindsey), Erin (Shawn), Adam (Ashley), Tyson (Laurel), and Julia, and great grandson, Justin. Predeceased by her sister, Vera Ruetz, brother-in-law, Pearce Ruetz, sister-in-law, Eileen Hauser and great nephew, Jacob Ruetz. Mae was a quick-witted matriarch, wholly devoted to her family. After spending her youth in London, Mae married Harold Ruetz on a mid-October day in the thick of the Second World War, while serving as a driver to VIPs and wounded soldiers. After the war, Mae and Hal returned to Kitchener to start a family. Mae imbued their children (and grandchildren) with a sense of accountability and love. The family spent more than 35 cherished years cottaging at Amberley beach. An avid golfer at Dundee Country Club, Mae was a skilled bridge player and enjoyed tennis and swimming for exercise. With a passion for travel, Mae was relentlessly curious and concerned about and for the world around her. As a life-long parishioner at St. Francis and St. Michaels churches, she served her community as a volunteer at St. Mary's hospital and as a board member at the Kitchener Public Library. Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of Mae at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Monday, March 11 from 6 - 8 p.m. A memorial mass will be held at St. Michael's RC Church, 240 Hemlock St. (at University Ave.) Waterloo, on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the funeral home's Historic Kuntz House. Private family internment at Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener. As expressions of sympathy, condolences for the family and memorial donations to SickKids Foundation, Toronto may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
