Obituary of Fay Teal

Fay passed away at Lisaard House in Cambridge on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the age of 74. Predeceased by her beloved husband Kenneth Aram in 1994 and parents Chester and Josephine (Feaner) Teal. Fay leaves behind many loved ones who will miss her dearly. Fay was born in Watrous, Saskatchewan in 1939. She grew up in Radville, Saskatchewan where she won provincial awards in debating, tennis, and swimming in high school. She attended the University of Saskatchewan. Fay started her long teaching career and family life in Ontario, retiring from Hespeler Public School as vice principal in the early 90's. During that time, she served as President of the Waterloo County Women Teachers' Federation and was well known for her leadership as the Chief Negotiator for collective bargaining for Waterloo County teachers. Fay was highly involved in charitable work with Anselma House and was a founding member of Upsilon Ontario, a local chapter of an international sorority for women educators, Alpha Delta Kappa. Upon retirement, Fay focused on developing her Waterloo Bed and Breakfast, "Roots and Wings". In the last decade of her life, Fay spent winters in Arizona where she rediscovered her passion for Bridge. Fay learned duplicate Bridge as a teenager and even with demands of school and summer jobs was a life master by her early 20's. Almost 40 years later, she picked up right where she left off, becoming diamond life master and travelling the world winning tournaments with her Bridge partner Barry. Fay will be remembered for her fiery spirit, brilliant mind, big heart, and ferocious independence. A memorial service to celebrate Fay's life will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will immediately follow the service at the funeral home.
