Elizabeth Christner

Obituary of Elizabeth Christner

Liz passed away, peacefully of cancer, on Friday, August 2, 2013 with her husband and three sons by her side. Loving wife of David for 50 years. Mother of Paul (Diane), Ian (Jennifer) and Brian. Grandmother of Sarah (Dan) and John. Sister of Donald (Hannah), Peter (Dee), Margaret (Larry Shantz), Michael, and sister-in-law of Audrey. Predeceased by her parents, Lyall and Doreene Sprung; brother, Ralph; and granddaughter, Laura. Liz devoted her life to the well-being of others, both professionally and personally. She graduated from TGH School of Nursing in 1962 and spent her early career nursing at St. Mary's and Grand River Hospitals in Kitchener. The last 16 years of her career were spent teaching nursing at Conestoga College. Liz was a member of Zion United Church in Kitchener where she was an active board member and contributor to many committees. She was a very active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority since 1969. In her personal life, her natural ability to ease pain, see the positive in every situation and solve problems with a graceful, common sense approach made her a trustworthy confidante and advisor to almost everyone who knew her. Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of Liz during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S. Waterloo on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 from 1-3:30 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The memorial service to celebrate Liz's life will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Joanne Peppler officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service in the funeral home's Fireside Reception Room. As expressions of sympathy, the family would appreciate memorial donations to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation or Grand River Hospital Foundation. Donations may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
