Norman Peterson

Obituary of Norman Peterson

Norman Franklin Peterson, 76, of Waterloo, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2015 surrounded by his loving wife and family. Norm was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario on May 16, 1939 as the only child of the late Florence (nee McEachren) and Everett G. ("Pete") Peterson. Norman attended Welland High & Vocational School and went on to graduate from the University of Toronto where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Physics. Norm proudly worked at IBM Canada for over 30 years at their offices in Windsor, Kitchener, and Toronto. Norm was happily married to his loving wife Nancy Peterson (nee Kenshol, of Windsor) for nearly 49 years. Norm is survived by his wife Nancy and his three children: Janet (nee Peterson) and Joel Bellerose (Welland), David Peterson and Joan Hamilton (Caledon), and Susan (nee Peterson) and Blair Willson (Paris, On.). Norm was a proud and loving "Poppa" to his seven grandchildren: Rachel, Jessica and Hayden Scott, Ben and Spencer Bellerose, Alexa and Evan Willson. Norm loved extended car trips with Nancy and so cherished their annual visits to the cottage each summer, fall and winter. Norm greatly enjoyed co-hosting all holiday events for their family and especially treasured the laughter and joy of Christmas family traditions. Norm took great pleasure in attending his grandchildren's activities and took great pride in their accomplishments. He was an avid baseball fan, statistician and enjoyed following his Toronto Blue Jays. Norm had a keen interest in genealogy and documenting his family's Scottish ancestry, co-writing three published Clan books. Nancy and family would like to thank the wonderful and compassionate staff at Pinehaven Nursing Home and the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre. For their care and support during Norm's journey, we would especially like to thank Dr. Pearce, Dr. Janet MacEachern and Nurse Susan Steckley, Dr. Heckman, Dr. Newman, Dr. Koke and Dr. Rainham. Friends are invited to share their memories of Norm with his family during memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Friday, August 7, 2015 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, August 8, 2015 from 10:00 - 12:00 p.m. followed immediately by a Memorial Service and reception. In accordance with Norm's wishes a private family interment will follow. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or a charity of your choice and may be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
