Obituary of Robert Thomas

Robert went to be with his heavenly Father on Friday, July 22, 2016 surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Cavell Lovina (Preiss) for 62 years. Loving father of Deborah (Drew), Susan, Stephen (Laura) and Glenn. Cherished grandfather to Jessica (Frank), Stephen (Stephanie), Michael, Amanda, Porschia and Jacob; also greatest great-grandfather to Zöe, Gwendolyn (Kieswetter) and Kate (Voisin). Dearest brother to Catherine (Gerald) Thiel, Paul (Judy), Nancy (Basil) McDougall, Jane (James) Goll and Charles (Nancy) along with many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Royden and Helen (Kunkel). Bob spent his entire career at Sunshine Manufacturing (Sunar Hauserman) until his retirement. He was an avid golfer at Foxwood Golf & Country Club and a lifetime member of the Waterloo Rod & Gun Club. He enjoyed horseshoes, slow pitch, bowling and was an active member of St. Louis RC Church in Waterloo. Bob was known for his integrity, honesty, and hard work ethic. He was also known as a protector and an extreme gentleman who was helpful, full of fairness and loved life. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Louis RC Church, 53 Allen St. E., Waterloo on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. A reception at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo will immediately follow the mass. Grateful thanks extended to Vanessa Peterson, palliative care nurse with C.C.A.C., all staff at both Grand River Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital, Wellington Hospice and Fr. Phillip Reilly of St. Louis RC Church. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to C.C.A.C. or Wellington Hospice of Guelph, Ontario.
