Late of Waterloo. Born in Guelph, Ontario on November 5, 1923. Passed away July 29, 2016. Predeceased by devoted and loving husband, Arthur (June 2016); sons, Alan (July 2016) and Bruce (July 1968), all of Waterloo; and by parents James and Mary Cox and sisters Eadie (Weir) and Ruth (Ball), all of Guelph. Survived by daughter, Elizabeth Fryer (Paul); daughter-in-law, Barbara; grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew (Amanda) and Jeffrey Jones and Jacob, Annie and Leah Fryer; great grandchildren, Travis Klett and Cassandra Jones; and great-great granddaughter Bleu. Also survived by brother, Bill Cox of Guelph and by many cousins, nieces and a nephew of Guelph and surrounds. Also holding Anna's memory close are her Australian Jones family. Anna attended Tytler school and Guelph Collegiate and met Art when he was stationed in Guelph and training as a member of the RAAF. She married Art in December 1942. Post-WW II, Anna and Art resided in Wollongong, Australia before returning to Guelph in early 1948. The family moved to Waterloo in mid-1949 where Anna has resided ever since. On December 31, 2015, she and Art celebrated 73 years of partnership and marriage. She has been a longtime, faithful member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Waterloo where she, Marjorie MacKenzie and her good friend Mary Maw served among the first Women Elders in the Presbyterian Church in Canada (1967). She was active with the Sunday school, Cubs and Scouts and various women's organizations, particularly her beloved "Group D" at Knox. Anna loved working with young people and was inspired, along with Bill Shantz, to begin a Mid-Week Group for Youth at the Church which had elements of play, sharing of meals and Bible Study. Anna had a curious mind and was always exploring her faith. She was encouraged particularly by Dr. Albert Bailey when he was the Minister at Knox. As a part-time adult student, Anna participated in several W.L.U. courses studying Religion and Culture. During the early days of the University of Waterloo she worked part-time in the Library. Anna and Art travelled extensively within Canada, USA, Caribbean, UK, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia, including one global circumnavigation. Anna was blessed to lead a full and interesting life! A Memorial Celebration service will be held at Knox Church, 50 Erb Street West in Waterloo on Wednesday August 3, 2016 at 5 p.m., followed by a joyful celebration to honour the 3 things she held most dear: Faith, Family and Friends.
