Obituary of Joanne Wood

Joanne Wood
Of Kitchener, passed away peacefully, September 4, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Joanne was born 83 years ago in Timmins. Loving mother of Leslie of Langley, BC, Alison (Dave) Burkett of Kitchener, Dianne of Kitchener, Geoffrey of St. Albert, AB, Megan of Waterloo and Peter (Sharon) of Murillo. Forever remembered by grandchildren, Andrew, Craig, Lizzie, Robbie, Stephanie, Cameron, Michael, John and David. Predeceased by her parents William and Wilma Langdon (nee Klotz). Dear sister of Herb (Patricia) Langdon of Kearney, and Ken Langdon of Fredericton, NB. Joanne entered Queens University at the age of 16, graduating in 1947 with the first Bachelor of Nursing Science from Queens. She taught nursing at Belleville General Hospital for several years; then, with young children she found nursing hours difficult and embarked on getting her Bachelor of Arts part-time. By graduation, Joanne had moved to St. Catharines. She taught English and Library Science for 26 years for Westlane Secondary School in Niagara Falls, retiring in 1987. Her lifelong interest in learning led her to study German, the language of her mother’s ancestors, the well-known Klotz family of Berlin, culminating in a summer spent at the Goethe Institute in 1980. After retirement, at the age of 62, Joanne tackled computers. Her computer became her lifeline in her last years, allowing her to avidly follow politics, do her jigsaw puzzles, and communicate with family. Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of Joanne during visitation at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday, September 7 from 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday, September 8 at 1 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 445 Anndale Road, Waterloo with Pastor James Brown officiating. Interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto. Condolences for the family and donations to St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener or the Arthritis Society may be arranged through the funeral home, www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
