Obituary of Mary Bruder

Mary Bruder
With her daughters and Rev. Janice Hamalainen by her side, our special angel, Mary Kathryn Bruder (nee Watt) returned to heaven on September 29, 2010. “I’m just an ordinary mother who loves her family” is how mom described herself, shortly before her passing. Her love, strength, courage, compassion, and gentleness will be forever in the hearts of daughters, Lynn Brown, and her husband Tom and Susan Evans (friend Pete), grandchildren Brad Evans (Joanne) Jeff Evans (Holly) Jennifer Metcalf and her husband Mike, Stephanie Brown (Ronnie) and great-granddaughter Emma Metcalf, her nieces and nephews and her many friends and neighbours. Whether family, friend, or just a passing acquaintance, mom treated everyone with kindness, dignity and respect. Predeceased by her husband of nearly 67 years, Der (2008), her parents (Alexander and Elizabeth) and siblings (Margie and Isabel) and son-in-law Steve Evans (2009). Born in Salem Ontario on October 17, 1923, mom was the last surviving member of the Watt family whose ancestors were instrumental in establishing the town of Elora and the building of Knox Presbyterian Church where she was baptized on the church’s 100th anniversary. Always willing to lend a hand, mom, for many years, was an active member of Knox Church in Guelph and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Kitchener. She volunteered at the K-W Grand River Hospital and through her love for reading also volunteered at the Waterloo Library. Friends are invited to a celebration of Mary Bruder’s life on Thursday, October 14, 2010 in the chapel of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo at 11 a.m. Reception to follow in the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home. Interment at Elora Municipal Cemetery has taken place. Condolences for the family and donations to the Alzheimer’s Society may be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal”
