Remember him with a smile today, he wasn't one for tears. Reflect instead on memories of all the happy years. His endless stories, smiling face and eyes that shone with fun - these are the things we will recall and be remembered by everyone.
Ernie passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 26. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Christine and beloved daughter Ann (Bill) Dale and granddaughter Heather, mother-in-law Donna Teigen, brother-in-law Norm (Carol) Teigen and nephew Erik, his life-long friends Duane Sauder and Dr. John Lackner. Predeceased by his parents Ernest and Helen Meissner and father-in-law Rev. Dr. Ragnar (Rug) Teigen.
Many lives were touched by Ernie on the waters of Georgian Bay and on the slopes of Aspen, Colorado. He will be remembered by his boating buddies and skiing companions.
In his years at KCI, he was an outstanding track and field athlete, setting many records. Ernie attended the University of Michigan and while there switched his focus to diving. His accomplishments included a fifth place showing in both the 1959 Pam-Am Games in Chicago and the 1960 Rome Olympics. In 1962, Ernie placed 3rd and received the bronze medal in the British Empire Games in Perth, Australia.
Locally, Ernie was best known as owner of Meissner Travel, the family business which was in operation for over 50 years. He will be missed by staff, clients and friends.
A service to celebrate the life of Ernie will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 22 Willow St., Waterloo, on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at 3:00 pm, reception to follow.
