Obituary of Marten Johnston

Marten Johnston

1945-2009
Passed away peacefully at Freeport Hospital, on November 15, 2009.
Marten was born and raised in Ireland by his parents Andrew and Rosalin Johnston.
He was the oldest of 4 children. He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother Dermot. He is survived by his sister Annie and youngest brother Guy.
Marten left Ireland in the mid-sixties to live in Canada and, apart from holidays to see his family, would never return.
Marten was an excellent sportsman and played Rugby, Cricket and Hockey for his school teams. His cricket bowling was legendary a fearsome thing to face- so hard and fast. He also played Tennis, a sport he would love forever. It was the Tennis that eventually
got him a job at the Waterloo Tennis Club, where he was an employee for 20 years until his untimely death.
Cremation has taken place, there will be no visitation. A celebration of his life through videos and live music will be held at the Waterloo Tennis Club on Saturday, November 21, 2009 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Donations to Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or Gifts to the Waterloo Tennis Club for a Tennis Development Fund in Martens name would be appreciated and may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
