THOMAS J. McELHONE
1943 - 2008
Tom passed away at K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the age of 65 from cardiac arrest.
He is survived by his son, Graham of Barrie, sister, Kathy (Bill) Hazzard of Detroit, Michigan, brother, Jim of Dallas, Texas, four nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his father, Col. James T. McElhone, U.S. Air Force (19 ), mother, Katherine McElhone of McAllen, Texas (2005) and brother, Michael (2007).
Also remembered by good friend Sharon-Lee Wideman.
Tom was born in New York but lived in numerous states and countries as his father had a lifelong career in the U.S. Air Force.
Tom also served with the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam from 19 - 19 and airplanes remained his passion, as well as boats, cars, photography, and the Cambridge Rod and Gun Club. In earlier years, Tom enjoyed deep sea diving, exploring shipwrecks, and underwater photography of exotic fish. He came to Canada in 1983 and was an active member of the Cambridge (Preston, Hespeler) Rotary Club where he served as President from 1989 to 1990.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate Toms life will be held in the chapel of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 3 pm. A reception will follow in the Historic Kuntz House at the funeral home.
