Peter Hood-Morris

Obituary of Peter Hood-Morris

Peter Hood-Morris
1944 - 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of a very special man who was a loving husband, caring brother, devoted father and proud granddad. As he wished, he passed away, peacefully, at home, on Sunday, September 10, 2006, with family by his side. Peter was born in Exeter, England on January 4, 1944 and came to Canada in 1958 with his parents. He was a son of the late John and Winifred Hood-Morris and is predeceased by his brother John. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 38 years Rosalind; his son Andrew (Toronto); his son Gregory and his wife Wendy (Cambridge), and his adored grandson John. Lovingly remembered also by his sisters, Elizabeth (Cambridge), Jennifer and her husband Roger Pyke (Richmond Hill), and Judith (England); his brother, Bob and his wife Hilda (Australia); his father-in-law, Charles Phypers (Waterloo); his sister-in-law, Christina Phypers and her husband Richard Relf (Waterloo). He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews: Jonathan, Alysia, Blythe, Robert, Rodney and Laura. Except for one year at Guelph Collegiate, Peter spent his entire career as an English Teacher and Department Head at Mount Forest District High School. His passions were his family, the outdoors and travelling. Since his first bout with cancer in 2002, he spent an impressive 31 weeks in trips to Great Britain, Australia, Newfoundland, and various parts of the States. There were also two very special family trips to Bermuda and to Shane’s cottage on Grand Manan Island in New Brunswick. On a more local level, the bicycle that was given to him as a retirement present in 1998 was well used in all seasons and had thousands of miles on it before being stilled just before he fell ill. Peter had a down-to-earth view of life, hated pretension in any form and was far happier in a tent than in a hotel room. The tranquil haven that he created in the garden was a comfort to him at the end when he sat for hours contemplating by the pond. He loved playing Scrabble and was always ready to take on any challengers although few could beat him. He was also a loyal Leafs fan for his entire life and always lived in hope that he’d see them win another Stanley Cup. Friends are invited to share their memories of Peter with his family during memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Church of the Holy Saviour, 33 Allen Street East, Waterloo, on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at 11a.m. followed by refreshments in the Church hall.
