Great-grandson of John Sleeman, founder of Sleeman Brewing Company, loving husband of the late Grace Sleeman (1999), for 60 years, passed away peacefully in his 94th year. Henry enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1943 and served until April 1946. Upon his discharge, he worked with Taylor Forbes in Guelph until setting his career goals working 35 years for Canada Customs and Excise. He retired as Collector of Customs in 1981.
Henry was an active member in seniors activities at Rockway Senior Centre, having served on the Advisory Council and other committees. He was an early member of the Federal Superannuates Association, Rockway Senior Golf Group, Marmo Travel Club and Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 234, Guelph. Henry enjoyed travelling and had the opportunity to visit Europe several times with Grace. Henry loved meeting people and always had a pleasant word and a smile for anyone he talked to.
Loving father to Gerry and Rob and their wives Judy and Jane. Grandfather to Riley, Torrey and his wife Anne, and Kate. Great-grandfather of two.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Henry with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, October 14, from 7-9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday October 15 from 1-1:45 p.m. followed by a funeral service to celebrate Henrys life in the Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Reception to follow in the Historic Kuntz House of the funeral home.
Special thanks to the staff of Winston Park who made Henrys last 11 years a comfortable and safe home. Henry was a good man whose humor and smile will be missed.
