Obituary of William Cook

William Cook
1942-2009 It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Bill while playing his favourite sport, hockey. He will be missed forever by his best friend and soul mate - wife Judy. Loving father and friend to his son Stephen, wife Patti and his grandchildren, Danika and Matthew of Waterloo, and his daughter, Stacey and husband Gardner Betteridge of Whistler, British Columbia. All will dramatically feel his loss. He leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Helen Cook of Durham, and sister Jodie (Larry) Best, brothers Jim (Donna) Cook and Tim (Carmen) Cook. As well, he will be missed by his sister-in-law Laurie (Roy) Clarke of Waterloo, Dennis Gowan of Fordwich, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Woodrow Cook, and his mother and father-in-law, Bernice and Arthur Gowan. Bill started his career as a barber in downtown Kitchener and then went on to spent 30 happy years as a facilities manager in the athletics department of the University of Waterloo. In 2003, in recognition of this commitment and accomplishments, Bill was inducted into the University of Waterloo Athletic Hall of Fame as a Builder. In his retirement he enjoyed playing hockey and golf, traveling and spending time with his family. Bill loved people and had the uncanny ability to forge lasting friendships with everyone he met. His many friends will miss his pranks, boisterous and contagious laughter, and light-hearted demeanor – elements that endeared him to all who called him their friend. Bill had many passions in his life, most of all, his childhood sweetheart and life long partner, Judy. We will all miss him and treasure the wonderful memories and shared experiences.
