Obituary of Elizabeth Simpson

Elizabeth Simpson
1936 – 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Elizabeth Steen Simpson (nee Stewart) on October 27, 2007, surrounded by her family at the Grand River Hospital in Kitchener. Elizabeth, (Betty), leaves behind her loving husband of 47 years, Alan and her three children, Esther (Frank) King, Alastair Simpson and Anne Huntley. Betty will also be sadly missed by her sister, Esther Pigott (Brian); nephews and niece, Graham, Stephen and Fiona of England; and very close friend, Nancy Montgomery of Montreal. Born in Law, Scotland in May of 1936, Elizabeth trained as a nurse in Greenock, Scotland and came to Newfoundland in 1958 where she met Alan. Alan and Betty were married in Montreal and shortly after moved to the Kitchener-Waterloo area where their children were born. For many years Elizabeth was a leader for the Women for Sobriety Program in Guelph, and for awhile in Kitchener, where she gave wonderful support to many women. Lovingly remembered by her many grandchildren, Robert, Rebecca, Stewart, Samuel, Savannah, Faith, Farah, Angel and Joudelie King, Kyle, Duncan and Aidan Simpson, and Andrew, Heather, Erika Siegner, Michael and Grace Huntley. Predeceased by her parents John and Annie Stewart, as well as her brother Jim Stewart. Mom was the central figure of her whole family and was a great support to all of us, especially in times of trouble. Mom taught us wonderful values, morals, generosity and kindness. The family would like to sincerely thank all the doctors and nurses of Grand River Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital for their kindness and skilled care on many occasions, also gratitude to her family doctors Drs. Ronald Smart and Norman Bodkin. Friends are invited to share their memories of Elizabeth with her family during memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate her life and faith will take place in the chapel of the funeral home on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 1 p.m., the Rev. Brooke Ashfield officiating. Reception to follow. Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the HopeSpring Cancer Centre, Grand River Hospital or St. Mary's Hospital Foundations would be greatly appreciated by the family and can be arranged through the funeral home, 519-745-8445 or www.erbgood.com.
